About us

Weingut Baer, founded in 2021, focusses on elegant and dry Riesling from the steep slops of Bacharach in the Mittelrhein.  The key to being able to produce our characterful Rieslings is the slate soil of the single vineyards Bacharacher Posten (monoply), Bacharacher Wolfshöhle, Steeger St. Jost and Heylsen Werth (monoply) island. These Grosse Gewächs classified vineyards produce balanced Rieslings with a lively acidity. Besides this component, time and patience is a vital part of our philosophy. Hence, our wines are released at min. 2 years after bottling. Allowing the wines to develop and approachable to drink. Thus, we will present our first vintage, vintage 2021, at Wine Paris. This has achieved great reviews by critics and experts alike. Our Wolfshöhle Riesling achieved 95 points James Suckling, and 94 Points and our Island Riesling form Bacharacher Werth, was awarded 94+ Points Falstaff and 94 Points James Suckling.

Bacharacher Posten (monopoly)
The single vinyard site Bacharacher Posten grows on a premium terroir with lots of potential. The vineyard faces south to southeast and rises directly above Bacharach with a view of the Rhine and an inclince of over 70 percent. In the middle of the vines stands the Posten Tower, a walkable tower of the former city fortifications.

Bacharacher Wolfshöhle
The single vineyard site presentS itself impressively with an inclination of 60-65%: Very prolonged, full-bodied Rieslings are produced here on medium-heavy clay and crystalline slate. The oldest vines currently grow here and have been there since 1965. Thanks to the deep roots, the vines have better access to the nutrients in the soil and produce particularly rich, succulent wines.

Steeger St. Jost
The single vineyard Steeger St. Jost stretches from Bacharach to the district of Steeg. Delicate Rieslings with great longevity are produced here. The south-facing location consists almost exclusively of clay shale, covered with a layer of drifting sand. The single vineyard Steeger St. Jost stretches from Bacharach to the district of Steeg. Heylesen Wert (island + monopoly)
The island of Heylesen-Werth is located directly in front of Bacharach in the Rhine.
The special microclimate on the island results in a distinctiveacidity that is typical of the Middle Rhine region which givesthe wine its individual expression. The combination of slateand sandy soil gives the wine a high level of elegance and, thanks to its special melt, makes it an extraordinary Riesling.
