About us
Situated in the middle of the German Wine Road, Dr. Josef Köhr crafts unique wines grown at the estate’s traditional vineyard plots in Ruppertsberg (Pfalz) and its surroundings. The favourable micro-climate of the region is owed to the exposition at the foot of the Pfälzerwald mountainside. As a part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the Pfälzerwald is Germany’s largest continuous forest area and seamlessly merges with the French Northern Vosges. Impressive castle ruins situated alongside pastoral forest passages are contemporary witnesses of the region’s moved past. The first documented vineyard ownership of the family dates back to the year 1648 and exhibits the deep-rootedness of the family in the region. Today, Dr. Josef Köhr cultivates in equal shares white and red grape varieties on a total area of 16 ha. The oldest vineyard plots have been in the family for 200 years and are planted with vines aged up to 40 years. These plots constitute the foundation of the winery’s premium wines. Riesling and Pinot constitute the estate’s most important grape varieties.

2021 Pinot noir Réserve unfiltered
A Pinot Noir elegant, powerful and long-lasting! Grown in our famous Ruppertsberg Nußbien vineyard, characterized by calcareous colourful sandstone soil. Fermented on the skins for over a month. The maturation took place for about three years in French barriques with regular bâtonnage. This Pinot noir shows highly saturated reflexes of ruby red colour in the glass.

2021 Syrah Réserve
We are thrilled to present the first vintage of our new wine – an exquisite Syrah that has been vinified with great care and passion. Syrah is known for its deep aromas and complex flavor profiles. Our Syrah has aged for three years in carefully selected new French oak barrels. This maturation enhances the development of its complex aromas. The first vintage of our Syrah presents itself in a deep ruby red in the glass. On the nose, intense aroma remind of of blackberry and black currant, accompanied by spicy notes of black pepper and a hint of chocolate. Further, well-integrated tannins and a refreshing acidity emerge on the palate.
2020 Blanc de Blancs brut Winzersekt
Our new cuvée made from Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois. A quality sparkling wine produced using the traditional method. Through a second fermentation in the bottle, endogenous carbon dioxide forms the basis for a fine mousseux. The several months of ageing (36 months) in the bottle before disgorging ensure that the bubbles are fine and well-merged with the structure of the cuvée.
