About us
Founded in 1803, Weingut von Hövel is currently led by Maximilian von Kunow, who represents the 7th generation of the family. The estate lies along the pristine oxbow in the Saar River near Konz-Oberemmel, where wine has purportedly been made since Celtic times.
Von Hövel cultivates 21.5 hectares of steep vineyards. Among its sites are several of the region's jewels, including the world-famous Scharzhofberg, the Oberemmeler Hütte (a monopole site).
A hands-off approach in the vineyards adheres to the association's strict guidelines for sustainable agriculture and estate management required to earn the "Fair & Green" seal. This commitment to forgo any herbicides, chemical fertilizers or pesticides is a perfect match for the deeply held ethos of the estate's owners.
The handcrafted wines are spontaneously fermented in a 12th century cloister cellar carved into the earth below the old abbey. The vinification process demands optimally healthy grapes and gentle processing to ensure wines of excellent quality and longevity.
