For 30 vintages we have been trying to explore the soul of Middle Mosel Riesling. A short time, considering that wine has been grown on the Middle Mosel for almost two millennia. Since 1465, Riesling has rooted itself here in the blue Devonian slate.
Every year we set aside bottles of the special wines of that vintage. Which wines bring us the greatest joy today?
For example, the 2000 Leiwener Laurentiuslay Kabinett, which we were able to taste last summer at the Jockey Club in Paris with violet artichokes à la barigoule (with garlic, onions, and bacon). Mature Rieslings sometimes show notes of hay, leather, and wood, which married beautifully with the distinctive aromas of the artichokes. It was exquisite.
A young Riesling Kabinett that, after around 25 years, possesses these characteristics must have been shaped by—and grown from—these factors:
Blue Devonian slate
Vineyard exposure from south to west
An unobstructed view of the Mosel
The summer and autumn of 2024 gifted us such a Kabinett. For this reason, we had the name protected and are delighted to present it to you now.
In the “Best of Riesling” competition, it received 92 points in the category “VI Riesling restsüss”.
