About us
For more than 350 years we as the Zenzen family and the wine estate Kloster Ebernach (Monastery Ebernach) pay tribute to winemaking in the Mosel valley in the areas around Cochem. As a family we took over the wine estate in 2019, which was previously run by the Franciscan Brothers of the Holy Cross. Our family itself has been producing wines since 1636 and thus we combine the strengths of start-ups as well as established family businesses.
With enduring manual labour we ensure that the steep slopes famous for the Mosel river remain cultivated. Out of this we mostly produce Riesling in all its finesse and elegance with a noticeable minerality, typical for the Mosel. Our wines range from dry to sweet. Our long family history and expertise combined with latest technology allows us to produce one of a kind wines.

Products & Services
We are a wine estate that is situated in Cochem in a part of the Mosel that is called “terraced Mosel”. The name derives from the way of working in the vineyards, which are too steep to grow vines without little terraces that move up the hills similar to a staircase. The incredible steepness allows the vines to get a lot of sunshine during the day even though the region is fairly north, which is additionally supported by the dark slate soils that absorb the sunlight and give of warmth even on cloudy days.
The combination of all these extraordinary features allows us to produce Riesling wines with an outstanding elegance and finesse due to the fine balance of sweetness, acidity and minerality.
Apart from fine Riesling wines we also offer some specialities such as our Rot-Gold, a blend of Roter Riesling (Red Riesling) and Goldriesling -two very rare varieties. We also grow some Pinot varieties and with our Collectors Edition we showcase our most special wines with labels that were designed by people with special needs living in the monastery Ebernach (a home for people with disabilities).
We cordially invite you to our booth to get to know our wines and us.
Cochemer Sonnenberg Riesling Kabinett feinherb
The Cochemer Sonnenberg Riesling Kabinett feinherb is grown in one of our monopoly vineyards, meaning that we are the only people who can produce this wine. The vineyard itself is one of our steepest vineyards and is 100% manual labour. It faces the north-west and therefore has a cooler microclimate allowing us to produce very elegant and low alcohol wines that still have a great mouthfeel and taste, due to the slate soil.
The Cochemer Sonnenberg Riesling Kabinett feinherb 2022 shows hints of ripe stonefruit, citrus fruits and a touch of mint.
Cochemer Bischofsstuhl Riesling Spätlese
The Cochemer Bischofsstuhl Riesling Spätlese (sweet) is grown in one of our monopoly vineyards, meaning that we are the only people who can produce this wine. The vineyard itself is one of our steepest vineyards and is 100% manual labour. It faces the north-west and therefore has a cooler microclimate allowing us to produce very elegant and low alcohol wines that still have a great mouthfeel and taste, due to the slate soil.
The Cochemer Bischofsstuhl Riesling Spätlese (sweet) 2023 has a nice tropical fruit flavour, a touch of honey, citrus fruits and some herbaceous notes.
Blanc de Noir, Pinot Noir -Collectors Edition
The Pinot Noir grapes for this wine grow in the Cochemer Sonnenberg, one of our monopoly vineyards, meaning that we are the only people who can produce this wine. The vineyard itself is one of our steepest vineyards and is 100% manual labour. It faces the north-west and therefore has a cooler microclimate allowing us to produce very elegant and low alcohol wines that still have a great mouthfeel and taste, due to the slate soil. As we produce a Blanc de Noir out of our Pinot Noir grapes from this vineyard this is a great benefit. The wine shows tropical fruit aromas, such as passion fruit and starfruit, which is accompanied by the forest berry notes of Pinot Noir.
The special label of the bottle was designed by Franz Josef Dosot, an inhabitant of the monastery Ebernach (a home for people with disabilities).
Cochemer Bischofsstuhl Riesling Auslese
The Cochemer Bischofsstuhl Riesling Auslese (sweet) is grown in one of our monopoly vineyards, meaning that we are the only people who can produce this wine. The vineyard itself is one of our steepest vineyards and is 100% manual labour. It faces the north-west and therefore has a cooler microclimate allowing us to produce very elegant and low alcohol wines that still have a great mouthfeel and taste, due to the slate soil.
The Cochemer Bischofsstuhl Riesling Auslese (sweet) 2023 has a rich tropical fruit flavour, white blossom, a touch of honey, candied citrus fruits and dried herbs such as chamomile.
ROT-GOLD (Roter Riesling & Goldriesling)
Our ROT-GOLD is a true speciality. It is a blend of Roter Riesling (Red Riesling) and Goldriesling, which are two very rare varieties. Roter Riesling is supposed to be the parent plant of the Rhein Riesling we all know today and thus shows great similarity. The biggest difference is that is has a slightly red tinted berry skin. The Goldriesling was bred out of Riesling and thus shows some similarities, such as the incredible aroma concentration of Rhein Riesling but has far less acidity. This very rare variety works incredibly well in the combination with Roter Riesling as both grapes let the other shine and only add to it.
