About us
The Metzger winery is located in the northern Palatinate. To be precise, in Grünstadt-Asselheim - a small wine-growing community with an excellent location. The soil here is rich in limestone, which, together with the favorable climate, ensures wines with strong character.
Uli Metzger is the third generation to run the family business and is proud that the fourth generation, with his two daughters, is already actively involved. After his apprenticeship in the southern Palatinate, he started working at home straight away.
Today, Uli Metzger and his team manage 32 hectares of their own vineyards, and winegrower friends with the same quality aspirations bring more grapes in the autumn. Reducing yields and good canopy management are essential for him. As much as possible is harvested by hand, even in several passes. "Time and good staff" are the most important quality measures for Uli Metzger.
In 2011, daughter Lea Metzger wanted to spice up the labels a bit, which, as Uli Metzger says today, "set off an avalanche". The newly designed labels and the company's overall external image are very recognizable. At the same time as this change, Uli Metzger also presented the first wines at tastings. Perhaps it was this combination that brought success. The German Red Wine Award, four grapes in the Gault Millau and four stars in the Vinum Wine Guide are just a few of the successes that the winery can boast. Well-known restaurateurs and retailers also have the wines on their menus.
Uli Metzger is certain: "You can never rest on your laurels when it comes to quality" and needs "a healthy ambition to produce great wines every year."
His hobby is his job: "Everything revolves around wine seven days a week."

Products & Services
The basis of our wines are the calcareous soils around Asselheim. They provide the best conditions for our Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs and Rieslings. Through targeted harvesting, gentle processing and the selection of the best barriques, these wines can impressively reflect their origins.
